If you are constantly disappointed by the results from whitening toothpastes and store-bought whitening kits, you are finally at the right place for effective teeth whitening. Abel, Phan & Associates gets real results in Sterling, Virginia, while the drugstore pens, kits, and pastes fail to live up to the marketing hype and miracle claims.
How can your treatments be so effective?
The key difference here is that Drs. Anna Abel and Chuong Phan are professionals who offer professional treatments. As licensed and qualified dentists, they can “prescribe” powerful whitening systems that use highly concentrated whitening gels. These gels are prepared with ingredients that have been scientifically proven to break down stains and whiten teeth. Such peroxide-based gels are also sufficiently concentrated. This means the amount of peroxide in the gel is high enough to break up and lift stubborn stains and discoloration. The whitening products that you buy at the store either do not contain peroxide, or they are not strong enough to make a noticeable difference in the color of your teeth.
What is the professional teeth whitening process like?
It depends on the method that is best for you! At our office, we provide both in-office or “power” whitening as well as a home whitening option. Both of these treatments are effective. They just involve different steps to reach your goal smile.
How many visits does it take for in-office whitening?
It only takes one appointment, because the professional-strength gel is uniquely activated to accelerate the whitening process. So, you can get big results fast.
Here’s what to expect:
- Preparation – We use a cheek retractor to expose your teeth so they are isolated from surrounding tissues. Those tissues are also protected with a special covering or barrier. This initial step supports even application of the whitening gel and prevents irritation and other damage to the gums and surrounding tissues.
- Application – Our “dental artists,” Drs. Abel or Phan, paint the whitening gel on your teeth. This process of applying the gel may be repeated several times throughout treatment until your desired level of whitening has been achieved.
- Activation – The gel’s whitening power is unlocked and sped up. This step in the process allows us to lift set-in stains from your teeth in minutes. You don’t have to wait to enjoy dramatic results. It’s a perfect option for patients with a big event ahead of them who don’t have time for more gradual home whitening methods.
- Post-treatment – Once the final application and activation are complete, the gel is removed and your teeth are thoroughly rinsed. We also provide you with instructions on how to care for your teeth and to keep them looking vibrant and healthy.
What if I want more gradual results?
Then home whitening is for you! The treatment process generally goes like this:
- Get your custom whitening trays
You will be provided with trays that are based on impressions of your mouth. Unlike OTC trays, these appliances fit your mouth comfortably and can also effectively and evenly whiten your teeth. You will also be provided with a concentrated gel (the strength of the gel varies depending on your needs).
- Prepare your trays
Carefully apply a small amount of gel to each tray. Take care not to overfill the trays. If you put too much gel in the trays, it can spill out onto your gums and soft tissues. - Wear your trays
Insert the trays snugly over clean teeth. Wipe away any gel that may have seeped onto your gums. Wear the trays for the duration that Drs. Abel or Phan advised you to wear them, as “wear time” is based on things like the severity of your stains and your risk of developing tooth sensitivity. Do not eat or drink anything during this time. - Post-wear care
After you have worn your trays for the correct time, remove them and rinse your mouth with room temperature (never hot) water. Also, brush your teeth to remove any lingering gel. The trays should be rinsed with water and brushed with a soft-bristle toothbrush or cotton swab, too. When not worn, always keep your trays in their original storage case or another clean and dry place where they are safe and won’t be damaged.
How can I keep my teeth stain-free?
