Transform your chipped, gapped, otherwise “imperfect” teeth with Porcelain Veneers

With natural-looking and durable porcelain veneers, Drs Anna Abel and Chuong Phan transform gapped, chipped, worn-down, stubbornly discolored, unevenly-shaped, and otherwise “imperfect” teeth. These thin layers of dental porcelain are designed to be bonded or fixed securely to the front surfaces of the teeth. In this manner, Abel, Phan, & Associates of Potomac Falls and Sterling, Virginia can disguise cosmetic concerns, including the ones mentioned above.

Veneers
Veneers are thin handcrafted porcelain shields worn on the front of the tooth which improve the appearance of teeth that are chipped, cracked, stained or worn. Veneers are thin as contact lenses, and are an aesthetically pleasing option of closing gaps, lengthening teeth, and providing symmetry to make your smile more natural. Veneers are intended to last for many years without changing color. They are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in dentistry. Ask your dentist if veneers may be right for you.

The “basics”

Porcelain is considered to be one of the most coveted dental materials. It not only mimics the appearance of natural tooth enamel, but it is also stain-resistant and strong. Alternative treatments, such as dental bonding, use composite resin. This plastic and glass particle combination can be prepared and applied as a “direct” restoration in a single visit. It is primarily considered a conservative alternative to porcelain veneers because the composite does not require removing the natural tooth structure. Bonding is also a more affordable option; however, following a consultation at our office, you may determine that porcelain (indirect) veneers are of better value.

Dental porcelain is not only unparalleled in its aesthetics, but it is also a long-lasting material.

The process

If you decide to move forward with porcelain veneers, treatment starts by removing a tiny amount of natural enamel. This step allows the shell to fit on top of the tooth well without jutting out too much. Since the tooth is reduced so minimally, the veneers process is well-tolerated by most patients. Sensitivity may be managed with a localized anesthetic. After the tooth has been prepared, a temporary or provisional veneer may be placed. Our dental lab will make the veneer to your exact specifications. We use advanced diagnostics to collect information about the tooth to be treated and the surrounding teeth. That informs the precise design and fabrication of your veneers. Once the permanent veneers are complete, the temporaries are removed. Adjustments are made to the permanent veneers before cementing them to the natural, underlying tooth structure. The application of a conditioning liquid helps to secure a very firm bond.

Then, it’s time to smile confidently! Care for your veneered teeth like you would natural teeth by avoiding those behaviors or habits that cause chips and other unwanted cosmetic conditions. If you grind or clench your teeth while sleeping or during the day (when stressed or concentrating), we can discuss ways to protect your veneers. These protective measures include custom nightguards or splints.
